Salve!
Ego sum magistra.
My students call me "Magistra," the feminine form in Latin for "teacher." Teaching students about the classical world and history is my passion. I teach the three B's:
-
Be professional.
-
Be an expert.
-
Be good and be kind.
I hold two Masters degrees: one in Modern History (St. Hilda's College, University of Oxford, 1997) and one in Classics (SF State, 2012). This May, I completed the first part of my CA Single Subject Teacher Education Program in World Languages through SF State's Department of Secondary Education. This fall, I will be taking a Social Science curriculum to become certified to teach history. With the aim of finding a teaching position at a high school that has high expectations for its students to succeed academically and to become responsible citizens in a global world, I have secured a position as a student teacher intern for the 2016-2017 academic year at Miramonte High School in Orinda, CA.

TESTIMONIAL
"Thank you for being our student teacher in Latin! I love Latin class and you have had so many good ideas for how to improve it! Your games are really fun and so are your unique teaching and testing methods.”
FAVORITE LATIN QUOTE
"Amor et labor omnia vincunt." (adapted from Virgil's Georgics, I.145-146).
Translation: Love and work conquer all.
INNOVATIVE LESSON DESIGN
My student teaching in Latin concluded in May 2016 with a selection of poems by the Roman poetae novi Catullus using different 20th century rock and roll songs as musical clues to introduce the theme of each poem in Latin. Next up, I will be teaching US History and World History. Watch this space for history lesson designs this year.
